Kindergarten

The SJCC Kindergarten Program provides an exceptional program designed to provide your child's kindergarten learning experience. 

SJCC Kindergarten is taught at our Mercer Island facility. The curriculum provides opportunities for enrichment in math, language, art, science, and social studies. In addition, your child will participate in specialty classes including swimming, fitness, and music. The curriculum will be coordinated with district kindergarten programs to provide continuity for your child's learning.

Curriculum Goals
The program will include integration of math, science, art and literacy, to help students to begin making connections between different subjects. The program will allow for choice and flexibility with assignments. This enables students to be part of their learning process and become critical thinkers.

• To understand and use different skills and strategies necessary to read and write (e.g.; knows names and sounds of letters, uses sounds to read and write words).
• To understand the meaning of what is read (e.g.; predicts story events, makes connections in stories, and knows real vs. pretend stories).
• To understand the relationship between addition and subtraction and apply the understanding to create math stories.
• To use mathematical reasoning to analyze information, make logical predictions, draw conclusions, and check results.
• To use communication strategies and skills to work effectively with others.
• To use a diversity of media as a means of artistic expression to deepen understanding of concepts being investigated by the class.
• To use listening and observation skills to gain understanding.
• Open to everyone.
• Before- and after-school care is available through SJCC Kidstown.
