for grades K-6
Thank you for voting us"best sports camp" and "best swimming lessons" in ParentMap magazine.

Come spend the summer at the SJCC Sports Camp, back-to-back winner of the ParentMap Magazine Awards for Best Sports Camp in the Puget Sound. As we look forward to summer 2013, we are going to add a second bus, allowing more kids to participate in this award-winning camp!
SJCC Sports Camp encourages participants to make smart choices, meet new friends, and develop teamwork and good sportsmanship. Campers increase their confidence through varied games, activities and events. Swimming in the SJCC pool is an important part of sports camp and encouraged for all campers.
We are also integrating our summer theme of derech eretz into our Sports Camp, with a focus on the spirit of sportsmanship and respect. We want all our campers to leave with the skills and confidence to compete in a variety of sports during the school year. How kids go about competing and winning are equally important.
Welcome Our New Sports Camp Director
SJCC Recreation Manager and Sports Camp Director Jessica Wilkinson is leaving the J this summer to earn her teaching certificate through the Seattle Teacher Residency program at the University of Washington. (And extra congratulations to Jessica for being one of just 25 students accepted to this competitive program.) Jessica helped build SJCC Sports Camp into the award-winning program it is today – a program that's doubled in size under her direction. Through individualized attention, skills workshops, and hands-on learning, her programs have helped kids and teens learn about sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, participation, and friendly competition. We'll certainly miss having her at the J, and we wish her the best of luck in her teaching career.
While we're sad to see Jessica go, we're excited to welcome our new Sports Camp Director,
Ken Di Raimondo. To ensure a seamless transition, Ken will have three weeks of overlap with Jessica to learn the ropes of Sports Camp.
A graduate of the Recreation Department at Western Washington University, Ken is a lifelong sports player who has coached youth basketball, football, soccer, and gymnastics. He has taught 6th grade environmental education for the Bellingham School District and, for the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, he has planned and led sports programming for teens.
Sports have always been a part of Ken's life and he's looking forward to a great summer at the J. "I hope to share the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, and winning/losing with class through Sports Camp this summer," Ken says. "I can't wait to get out there and help everyone have a good and safe time, while sharpening their skills and abilities!"
If you have any questions about these changes, please contact
Mark Rosenberg, SJCC Youth and Family Program Manager and Summer Camp Director, at markr@sjcc.org or 206-388-0830.

Placement
We take the utmost care at SJCC Sports Camp to place your child with other children of similar ages and abilities. Children are grouped according to school grade; each team has its own special activities. A senior counselor and junior counselor will supervise each group of 10-12 children. You may request we group your child with friends of the same age; we will try to accommodate your request but we do not guarantee placement.

Watts Basketball Camp
Grades 3-8
August 19-23
Join Husky standout Donald Watts and special guest NBA Legend Slick Watts for a week-long basketball camp. A fun-filled week practicing the "FUN-da-mentals" of the game with the most awesome and encouraging staff in town, will leave your young hoopster talking about it for the rest of the summer. Dedicated to youth development, this camp reaches kids at all skill levels. You won't find any benchwarmers in our camp; EVERYONE makes the team.
We're all about sharing our love for basketball and for life in an active way that helps kids learn without even realizing it. Each day basketball skills are paired with life skills (e.g. passing with communication, defense with discipline and work ethic); while throwing in fun activities and games. Our campers get to try "slick" moves while having a ball, changing their "I can'ts" to "I CANs."
That's Watts Power!
